On writing

“I wish I had more time to write.” I say this to myself multiple times a day. Since I was a little girl, I have always loved words. I used to fill notebooks with lengthy stories that reflected my wild imagination. During my angst-ridden teenage years, I turned to poetry as a form of self-expression…. [Read More]

3 ways to keep calm during the holidays

With Thanksgiving approaching this week, and holiday decorations already in the stores, it is evident that the “holiday season” has begun. In addition to the joy and excitement that is palpable this time of year, these weeks can bring stress for many due to the numerous family functions and parties. Of course, this is a wonderful season and there is… [Read More]

Why I Cultivate Compassion During my Toddler’s Tantrums

This post initially appeared on elephant journal and is republished with permission. Please click here to see the initial article. My daughter Emma is not quite 20 months old, yet I already find myself in the throes of the “terrible twos.” Tantrums are a daily occurrence—often in the privacy of our home, but also in… [Read More]

How Children Remind us of Impermanence

This blog post initially appeared on elephant journal and is republished here with permission.  Click here for the original link.   As a stay at home mom to my 20-month-old daughter, Emma, my days are filled with beautiful moments. Sometimes she comes to me with her lips out, asking me for a kiss. She snuggles… [Read More]

Celebrate National Stroller Running Day!

November 8th is the first National Stroller Running Day! This day is for parents to celebrate sharing their active lifestyles with their families. I was thrilled when Run Stroller Run asked me to write a blog about National Stroller Running Day. Personally, this day celebrates so much that matters to me: fitness, my awesome running stroller and… [Read More]

Kale and white bean soup recipe: perfect for fall

A few years ago, I made a commitment to try to eat seasonally.  Of course, I can’t always eat what is in season, since I live in New York, and there are not a whole lot of fresh fruits and vegetables available in the middle of January.  However, I do the best I can. Eating… [Read More]

Why I cherish my daughter’s bedtime antics

My daughter Emma has a new routine at bedtime. Once I get her all tucked in and she lays down, she stands up again and beckons me to give her a kiss. “Mmm” she says and reaches her tiny lips out. Every night and I bend down and oblige with a goodnight kiss. My heart… [Read More]

lessons from a little girl

My toddler daughter Emma copies everything I do. She wants to eat what I eat and drink what I drink. She uses an adult fork instead of a baby one. Emma grabs my iPhone and holds it to hear ear while saying “hi” to whomever she imagines is on the other end of the line…. [Read More]

Why sometimes, all you need to do is show up

My mom called me the other night to tell me about her first SoulCycle class. My mom walks regularly and does yoga occasionally, but this was her first strenuous exercise class in many years.  She excitedly recounted every single detail about the class, from having the bike set up to the special shoes to how the room looked…. [Read More]

How I embrace change while injured

It has been one month since I have run due to my injury.  In that time, my workouts have been limited to using the exercise bike in my basement a few times.  I am resting my foot as much as I can between chasing my toddler around the park and teaching Stroller Strides fitness classes.  It has… [Read More]
